London Skate Routes PDF Print

This FAQ is a short low down on the different routes that the London Skate takes for anyone who is unfamiliar of the routes or just plain forgetful!

Point to note: The Speed of a skate depends on the number of people on the skate. The fewer the people the faster the skate. Generally speaking if the weather has been good on Monday/Tuesday then the skate tends to be busier as people start planning with their friends etc on these two days for Wednesday night.

This is a general view of each route.....you won't know how you feel about it until you try it.

Camden - Route
Approximately 10 Miles
Average speed 8MPH - Second half 14 Mph.
Time Taken - Approximately 1 hour 40 mins including 15 mins break

Lots of Hills both up and down with a big hill up to the half time stop. (the ice cream shop is at the bottom of the hill if you fancy an ice cream Smiley ).  This tends to be a fairly fast skate with a variety of surfaces including some frequent fairly rough ones. We travel along roads with small and large speed humps and there are quite a few two row cobble parts.

Shopper Delight - Route
Approximately 11 Miles
Average Speed 8.1MPH
Time Taken - Approximately 1 hour 23 mins

Lots of stopping behind buses and some big speed humps.
A few very rough surfaces, mostly at the beginning and the end.
Approximate 3 big hills - but all are followed by lovely down hills.
Some Great Long straight bits of Skates to get some speed up and also spread the skate out so you can move around a bit.  South Carriage Drive to finish is FAB

New Clapham - Route
Not recommended for first timers.
Some Truely AWFUL surfaces
A Few Hills and a GREAT down hill after the half time stop - Watch out for the concreate in the centre of the road
Go across two bridges
Lots of nice long stretchs of road to get some speed up.
Narrows quites a few times which causes a bottleneck effect.

Barnes Route - Route
